Our Process

No Shortcuts

Every piece begins with careful design, followed by precise carving and unhurried finishing. Nothing is mass-produced, and nothing leaves the studio until it has been inspected and approved.

01 · Design & Engineering

Design With Intention

Every build begins with proportion, structural balance, and meaning before any wood is touched. For calligraphic work, we draft compositions in the studio or collaborate with calligrapher partners, naming the traditional script and source. For cabinetry and architectural millwork, we engineer exact joinery, tolerances, and wall-mounting systems so you can review a scaled digital proof before fabrication begins.

02 · Milling, Joinery & Fabrication

From Rough Timber To Carved Form

Once the design is approved, work begins at the lumber rack. Rough hardwood stock is milled flat and fitted using traditional cabinetmaking joinery. Where the design calls for dimensional detail, we combine multi-axis CNC relief carving with precision laser inlay and brass or resin accents. Disciplined toolpaths and tight tolerances allow the carved script and the natural wood grain to sit effortlessly together.

03 · Hand Sanding & Finishing

Finished To Suit Its Use

After assembly and carving, every surface is hand-sanded through fine grits and finished in-house according to how the piece will live. Heirloom boards and keepsakes receive zero-VOC hand-rubbed oils, such as Odie's Oil, that keep the grain warm and tactile. Architectural panels, cabinetry, and high-wear furniture receive custom-toned stains and durable, furniture-grade spray-applied satin lacquers.

04 · Quality & Provenance

Inspected And Signed

Each piece is inspected in natural daylight, front and back, before it is cleared to leave the shop. We brand our studio mark into the back or underside alongside the wood species and the year of completion, establishing a permanent record of where and when it was made.

The Name

Think Of Our Logo

Forgot how to use a siwaak? Think of our logo.

A siwaak is a simple piece of wood, used with intention every day. Our mark is one open stroke that traces the Sunnah way of using it, so each time you see it, you see the motion.

  1. Begin at the top left, at the teeth.
  2. Move back, down and forward.
  3. Return to the top left.
  4. Back, down and forward again, finishing at the bottom right.
